The iPhone nano is coming! The iPhone nano is coming! Or so does the Economic Daily News say, quoting sources at Taiwanese electronic parts manufacturers TSMC and UMC. The rumors are becoming louder and louder.

According to the paper, which AppleInsider says it is a "fairly reliable publication," the bidding for some parts of a new low-cost entry-level cellphone from Apple—dubbed the iPhone nano—is near its end. The Economic Daily News says that the iPhone nano launch should happen not earlier than June.

Verizon Licenses CBS Full-Length Shows

Verizon and CBS said they have reached an expanded deal to carry CBS television shows like "CSI" and "Survivor" on its VCAST video service.

The companies said Verizon has broadened and extended the rights for retransmission consent for CBS network stations as well as its affiliates, and mobile rights for Verizon Wireless' VCAST video service.

The new agreement includes full episodes of CBS prime-time and daytime shows such as "60 Minutes."

Sprint Service Pushes GPS Coordinates, Interactive Maps

Sprint today announced enhancements to its push-to-talk messaging network by adding NextMail Locator, a service that adds GPS coordinates, location timestamps, street addresses and interactive maps to messages.

The company said users will be able to send location, date, time and voice observations to dispatchers, call centers or field workers.

An interactive map lets recipients see an aerial view of the sender's location, a hybrid view showing the names of roads and streets surrounding the sender, and a bird's eye view that provides a snapshot of the location.

China Mobile to Invest $8.6 Billion into 3G in 2009

China Mobile has announced a plan to invest 58.8 billion yuan (8.6 billion dollars) this year to develop its third-generation network.

The company said it will use the money to build around 60,000 base stations, which connect calls between mobile phones, covering 238 cities. It currently operates over 20,000 base stations.

Third-generation, or 3G, networks will allow faster data transmission and services such as wide-area wireless calls, broadband web surfing and video streaming.

Verizon Wireless Completes $5.9 Billion Alltel Buyout

Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless announced it has completed the $5.9 billion purchase of Alltel, making Verizon the nation's top wireless carrier in terms of subscribers.

Verizon said it will also take on $22.2 billion in Alltel debt.

Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said it would take a year after closing the sale to assess employee retention. It will keep all Alltel employees below the executive level as the company determines which jobs need to be cut or kept under the new arrangement.

Skype Brings Free, Cheaper Calls to Cell Phones

Skype, which brought cheap and free calls to the Internet, is doing the same for cell phones, announcing support for Google's Android.

The Web-based voice and text service, a unit of auction giant eBay, is bringing its Internet communications software to cell phones. The new "lite" version of Skype can be downloaded for free to more than 100 models of Java-enabled cell phones or those using Google's open-source Android platform.
