Introduction

Even though Nokia is considered to be a leader in handset manufacturing, its UMTS line is not that much strong or competitive. This time Nokia has tried to disproof the above fact by announcing Nokia 6280 UMTS slider phone. After Nokia 7650, a slider form factor has been given another try in Nokia 6280. Lets discuss the features in detail.

Features

The first point that should be noted is that Nokia 6280 belong to Nokia's series 40, hence Nokia 6280 is not a smartphone. On the bright-side it presents Nokia 6280 as a user friendly and elegant UMTS phone. As an external look, the sliding form factor is showing big 320 x 240 pixel 262k screen at the front while hiding the keypad under the slider. The size and weight 99.9mm x 46mm x 21mm 115g are acceptable for a UMTS phone. Nokia 6280 comes up with 2 cameras, one for video call while other is 2 megapixle for imaging purposes.

UMTS features such as video call, sending video clips/attachments as email or during call are present. Alongwith UMTS, GSM/GPRS/EDGE is also supported with bluetooth, infrared and pop port. Still wifi support is not there but is not that much required at that time. There is just 10Mb built-in memory with mini SD expansion slot. The inbuilt memory seems to be less. To balance, a 64Mb mini SD card comes with the package. Last but not the least, you will find FM radio and a Visual radio in Nokia 6280.

Conclusion

Nokia 6280 is expected to be released in final quarter of 2005 with a price tag around 375 Euro. In my opinion, the actual race of UMTS phones has just started as UMTS operators have started to provide services to customers. So, there is a lot to see in the coming quarters.
