Samsung z300 is based over traditional clamshell factor of Samsung. The size and weight are like a generic UMTS device but the functionality depicts another possitive step in the right direction. The internal 262k TFT 176 x 220 pixels screen is covering the huge area i.e. 2 inch while the external screen OLED screen is not that much impressive. A dedicated VGA camera is under the screen for video conferencing while a megapixel camera is located on the external side. Being an mp3 player, you can see dedicated buttons for music playing both inside and outside.

Samsung has introduced usb connector for z300. This is a nice approach; yet there is need of a lot of standardization in this field such as auto detection, built-in drivers, charging from usb port, auto configuration and detection of modem etc. Furthermore, you will see a swappable trans-flash memory slot, 50Mb built-in memory, bluetooth, infrared etc. Infact these features are turned into necessities from luxuries.

Samsung z300 is giving quite a mix opinion. It could be said as yet another UMTS phone. A huge circle of people have compactness and elegance in their priorities alongwith functionality. Samsung z300 just seem to satisfy the features part. On the other hand, Samsung z300 seems to be a test model so that Samsung's technlogy regarding UMTS be checked in the UMTS networks. Its initial price is just 400-500$ which will reduce with time. I think Sonyericsson v800 wins the battle even being slightly bigger but one may expect to see a lot from Samsung in the UMTS.
